I am so excited to share this Three and Two stitch with you! It is such a simple crochet stitch, but it looks great and is a great introduction to cluster stitches for beginners.
The 3 and 2 stitch is easy to crochet and remember the name since you are working clusters of 3 double crochet stitches and then two double crochet stitches.
The key to this one is the placement of your stitches in the next row.
The 2 are worked between the 2 in the row below and the 3 clusters are worked into the 2nd double crochet in the 3 cluster below.
Let’s get started learning this stitch pattern!
Techniques and Abbreviations Used:
- ch – chain
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- sl st – slip stitch
- yo – yarn over
- dc – double crochet
Three and Two Stitch Written Instructions:
Work in multiples of 6 stitches + 2 stitches, add 2 if you are starting with the foundation chain.
Three and Two stitch: Work 3 dc into one st, skip 2 sts, work 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc into next st. If you are working into the next row of Three and Two, insert hook into the 2nd dc in the three cluster in the row below and work the two cluster into the ch 1 sp in the two cluster from the row below.
Row 1: [1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc] in th 5th ch from hook, *skip 2 ch, 3 dc in next ch, skip 2 ch, [1 dc, ch 1, 1dc] in next ch; repeat from * to last 2 ch, skip next ch, work 1 dc in last ch, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, skip first two dc, *3 dc in next st (the 2nd dc in the cluster below), [1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc] in next ch 1 space; repeat from * to end or row, work 1 dc in top of turning ch, turn.
Row 3+: Repeat Row 2.
- Always end with a dc in that turning chain at the end of each row and then start the next row with a chain 3.
- Make sure you are working into the second double crochet in that three cluster from the row below so that your little fans line up correctly.
- The same is true for the two cluster or V stitch – make sure it is always going into the chain 1 space from the row below.
