Free Crochet Scarf Pattern – Curly Sue Scarf

This scarf is simply a dream to work up and it is so simple, even a beginner can get these great results! This curly pattern is easy to create and we are excited to offer this free crochet scarf pattern to you. Even though it looks complex, this is also a great beginner crochet scarf pattern. You can use whatever yarn you have on hand and adapt the pattern. The yarn we used worked to enhance the curls in the pattern with the natural changes in color throughout.

Materials

LION BRAND Landscapes Aran (worsted) weight 100% acrylic
(3.5 oz/147 yds/100 g per skein):
2 skeins Skyline Horizon

Size K hook

Abbreviations

Ch: chain
Ch-1 sp: chain 1 space
SC: single crochet
DC: double crochet

*  Repeat directions following * as many times as indicated.

Shell:  3 double crochets in ch-1 space.

Ch 230
Row 1: Double crochet (DC) into 4th chain from hook, chain 1 (ch 1), DC into next chain, * ch 1, DC into next chain.* Repeat from * to * to last chain. Ch 3 and turn.

Row 2: Work 3 DC (Shell) into each ch-1 sp across ending with one DC into top of turning chain from previous row. Ch 3 and turn.

Row 3: *DC in each of next 3 DC (Shell), ch 1, DC into each of next 3 DC (Shell).* Repeat from * to * to last stitch. Ch 6 and turn.

Row 4: Single crochet (SC) into ch-1 sp, * ch 5, SC into next ch-1 sp.* Repeat from * to * to last stitch. Finish off and weave in ends.

Such a pretty detail!

As you can see in this photo, the yarn itself helps to create a striping effect. You can achieve this by using different colors of yarn too. Either way, this is a gorgeous look!
