I am always looking for a little bag to store items quickly and I just can’t seem to find one that will fit in my purse easily and fold up and out of the way. So, I decided to make one myself. This crochet mini bag is just right for storing little things and keeping them together in your purse or bag. I like to use it at stores when I just am buying a few little items or when I get several receipts that I need to keep, but don’t want to just shove in my purse to be lost or crumpled later. It is easy to crochet, so this makes a great beginner crochet pattern.

Crochet Mini Bag Pattern

This pattern is worked as one rectangle with a handle at each end and then seamed along each side to finish.

Ch 26
Row 1 – Work sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across -25 st, Ch 1 and turn
Row 2 – 1 sc in each st , ch 1 and turn
Row 3 – sc into first st from hook, then sc into next 6 st, ch 13 and skip 13 sts, work 1 sc into each of the final 7 st, ch 1 and turn
Row 4 – Work a sc in each st including the 13 ch stitches, ch 1 and turn
Work another 45 rows of sc stitches across and ch 1 and turn at the end.
Row 50 – sc into first st from hook, then sc into next 6 st, ch 13 and skip 13 sts, then work 1 sc into each of the final 7 st, ch 1 and turn
Row 51 – Work a sc in each st including the 13 ch stitches, ch 1 and turn
Row 52 –  sc in each st across

Fold with right sides facing, work a slip stitch along edges to close up the two sides, weave in ends.

Turn right side out and enjoy!

Tips and Other Ideas:

  • My bag measures 7 inches x 7 inches
  • For a deeper bag, add more sc rows in the body between rows 5 and 49.
  • For a wider bag, add in multiples of 2 to the original chain and then add half of the new chain added to each side before you chain for the handle part (if you add 20 stitches, add 10 to each side before/after the chain 13. You could also increase the handle opening if you wanted.
